Glen Barber

I make complex systems more reliable, and releases more predictable.

If releases depend on manual steps, infrastructure problems keep returning, or critical knowledge lives with one person, I can help you build a more dependable way forward.

I bring 17 years of Unix systems and infrastructure experience, including nearly a decade leading FreeBSD release engineering. My work spans release planning, build automation, change control, production troubleshooting, and coordinating distributed engineering teams through difficult delivery decisions.

I created Thermite, the ZFS-backed automation framework used for isolated, repeatable FreeBSD release builds. I also carried release automation and workflows through the project's Subversion-to-Git migration without interrupting the release cadence.

My current project put that operational experience into code:

Apiary: A FreeBSD-native virtualization and cluster management platform combining bhyve, jails, ZFS, storage replication, and management APIs. https://github.com/glenjbarber/apiary
